Healthier

I wish I could have realized this sooner. I've heard and read about how important the diet is but I'm now realizing for me and my body...it's very important. Here are some changes that I've been recently making:

Van.illa Al.mond Mi.lk (my dh likes this milk too)
Rice Ch.ex Cereal (gluten/wheat free)
Magnes.ium (CD15 - CD1)
Glut.en/whe.at free snacks.
Yogurt (including froz yogurt)
1/2 caf/decaf coffee
More fruits and veggies (especially baby spinach in my salads)
Flax.seed chewabl.es (300mg...I couldn't handle the 1.000mg pills)
More exercise
More Rosaries being prayed (can't forget about how much prayer helps)

This cycle that I'm starting now has been so different. I'm having very little cramping ...most of the time none (not really needing the Al.eve.). SInce the surg last May, my cramps have been slight but enough I know they are there. I haven't had that lingering headache I usually get and my boo.bs are not sore. I made it to P13! My cycle starts out spotting/VL for two days and then the heavy day comes (and more cramps so we'll see how that goes). Today the spotting started. Hmmmm.....my dh laughs at how in tune I am with my body. IF has taught me to be that way. It's a good thing.

Is is possible the dairy, etc in my diet has caused my pain and soreness? I guess time will tell.

I just need to laugh but when I walked into my first summer class last week....I right away noticed that the teacher is almost eight months pregnant. Another student in the class is pregnant too so my class started off with these two talking about their pregnancies. I sat there and smiled. I also got invited to a baby shower from that one woman I haven't spoken to in about 2 or 3 years. I'm not going but will send a card and a little gift. On my way to class...I realized that at this point in my life...I'm blessed. Whether I end up just teaching or if I do become a parent (or both?)...all is good with the Lord. It's about what HE wants of me and the work I do for Him. I did have a little cry with Jesus during Adoration last Fri. Sometimes that just happens. I sometimes feel like my IF has left me looking through a glass at the fertile world. It is what it is.

And oh yeah...if my cycle continues to be this good...we will be putting forth more of an effort in the TTC'ing. Why not? Many blessings to all of you.

  1. I think dairy is a big culprit with GI issues and dietary issues. It's up for debate about this but I tend to feel adults weren't meant to eat/drink a lot of dairy from cows. We are the only species to drink the milk of another species. Granted, we are also the most evolved. But soooo many people have lactose issues it makes me wonder. I just walk by a glass of milk and get sick:)

And I noticed a huge difference in the pain/cramps I had during periods when I went off caffeine for Lent this year. It was amazing. My actual flow was better too. Didn't you want to know that???

Keep up the changes. I know you'll reap plenty of benefits from them!

  2. Diet definitely has something to do with less pain!!! When I went gluten-free not only did the post-meal pain stop (I just thought EVERYONE felt pain after they ate!) but I had more energy and I was sick less often. It's amazing!

I went off coffee quite a long time ago and I haven't looked back. You should try substituting green tea for the coffee. It helps with digestion and endo symptoms.

And yes, we are blessed. It's just sometimes hard to see when IF gets in the way!

  3. I'll need to try the green tea. I've been a coffee drinker for so many years...it's like a child's favorite blanket..it's just hard to get rid of. I've had a few dr's tell me that the caffeine could be a big source of my IF. I'm taking baby steps...to avoid the withdrawl(it's so bad for me. You would think I was addicted to cra.ck). Does Green Tea give you a morning boost? I need that too..not much of a morning person.

My goal with the diet changes is to find stuff that I can do for the rest of my life. I'm so far liking the changes so I'll stick with them.

Thanks for the advice...I will keep adding new things to try in my diet. So far, so good.

  4. Great post! I definatly believe diet plays a huge role in our cycles, and effects everything! Last month I cut back drastically on caffine, and there is a huge difference in my CM. My sister thinks that the problem with cow's milk is that it is overprocessed with antibiotics and she only drinks "real" milk straight from the cow, and not from the store. She says that she doesn't have any more pain, or breakouts, since swiching to "real" whole milk. There is some debate on this, but she swares by it! I Love the Almond Milk myself, and for fear of pain in my belly and breakouts, that is all I will drink! :) Also buy meats that have been grass fed and not been given antibiotics. I have noticed a big difference in the way I digest this type of meat than the grain fed kind.

  6. Coffee wasn't my vice, it was Coke.

And dear Lord, the withdrawal from having ONE Coke every other day or so was horrendous!!!! I couldn't make it through the day and the headaches were even worse. You don't realize how powerful that stimulant is until you boot it!

  7. Suzie..interesting about the meat. I will have to watch for that. We mainly eat chicken in our house or turkey. But even so, I agree, the hormones, etc that are fed to the animals we eat is scary. No wonder there is so much more IF.

  8. So glad you're feeling better. Your changes sound pretty close to the endo diet which I've been doing for a few months now.

  9. Hey, have fun trying :). I like your perspective. Short of that myself these days - but one thing at a time.
