OMG! Cat Craziness!!!

My cat decided to eat part of one of my plants lastnight and when I looked up the plant information....I found out the plant was poisonous! Criminey!!! I thought I looked up this plant awhile ago when he ate another plant (which was safe). I thought this plant was safe too but in actuality, I had the wrong plant name. My mom had given me this plant so I called her and she told me the name. I did stay calm and watched him but when my dh came home from his second job...we decided to call the poi.son con.trol number for animals. Did you know there is such a thing? It cost us $60.00! On the internet, the websites for the plant did tell us to call this number anyway. So....they told us the plant is poisonous but not lethal (Praise God) and he should only get an upset stomach or mouth irritation. They also suggested giving him milk to counteract the effects of the poison. So, he got some milk which he just loved and lapped up! He was purring after that treat. We have to observe him for 24 hours incase any irritation gets worse and he can't swallow or breathe! So, Bubby slept on our bed last night and kept me awake with a 3am play time. He did sleep alot. He's fine. He did look at me when I was on the phone like I was nuts. He hasn't shown any symptoms. Whew! No vomiting. Whew! I got taught a huge lesson last night. The plant is in closed off bedroom for now. My mom is getting it back and my other plants until I can identify them and know they are safe. I may just go out with my list of safe plants and start anew. I love plants in my house but not if they are going to hurt my ever so curious kitty!!! God did listen to my prayer lastnight that Bubby would be okay. Can you imagine what an emergancy vet visit would have cost? More than the price of all the plants in my house. So, lesson learned. Amen! (Sometimes pets are like children. As a "pet parent" I have to keep my house safe.)

  2. oh and by the way ... I just happened to see your comment on "The Peace of Christ" that you were allergic to the injections.

I am REALLY interested to hear more on this. I too believe I have an allergy, but my Dr. swears this is almost impossible. My symptoms are severe. At first, we thought it was the compounding pharmacy that we used. I have since never used injections. I don't know whether it is the oil it is in, or the actual progesterone. Unfortunately, I have experienced similar symptoms with prometrium AND the suppositories! The symptoms are less severe, but they are there. (low grade fever, body aches, flu-like symptoms)

Can I ask what your symptoms were and how you knew you were allergic? I am SO curious!!! You can email me at lifehopesnow@gmail.com if you want. You are the only other person I have heard of that has this besides me!

This website has good info for cat and dog lovers. I never knew coffee is poisonous to cats. I love my coffee. Gosh...I'll have to be more careful with it. It's amazing that my Bubby is still with us. Yikes!

  4. I'm so glad that your cat is okay! What a terrible scare. Thanks for letting me know about your reaction to Prometrium. I think the jury is still out for me. I don't feel good this week but I'm not sure that it's worse than other weeks. I do know that I'm having less PMS so I'll take that. Unfortunately I do develop allergies easily so we'll see!
