New IF Spec Dr's Visit

I had my Dr. visit this morning. I feel this Dr has a lot of experience with infertility, etc so I feel like I'm in good hands. First plan of treatment is going to the the Lararoscopy and Hysteroscopy surgery, he'll do both at the same time. Lord willing this could happen in the next few weeks since my cycle is due to start any day now. He mentioned putting me on B/C pills to make sure we get the before ovulation timing right and I said "no" so we are going to plan accordingly and hope we are right. I showed him my charts.....I know when the window is open for this surgery.

He is pretty sure I have endo and have had it for some years now. The first IF spec and the napro dr did not look into this. According this IF Spec, what the first IF spec did was very superficial and most likely would not have helped. I never had the two surgeries listed above before so this is definitely needed. Have I ever mentioned in this blog that I start taking Aleve a week or more before my cycle starts due to the cramps? That gave the Dr a big clue I'm having issues. Also, he said that a lot of women with regular cycles end up with endo. My cycles are not very heavy either. So, I'm weary about the surgery but know it's something I have to do.

After surgery, he wants to put me on a ovulation type drug,,,either clomid or femera. He has other options too. He stated that he wants to be aggressive with me due to my age. I'm all for that.

After about three months of ovulation drugs......we'll be on to the next step which would be the progesterone drugs. He mentioned using a cream due to the fact the oral prog and suppositories bothered me. He also mentioned some other drugs....when I get the names and uses I'll blog. I'm not doing any kind of Lupron, etc. We talked about so many things. My DH did not attend with me.

The one thing he discussed were my odds of getting pregnant at my age are now down to 20% to 25%. That was a blow but it is what it is. I'm certainly not getting my hopes up that this surgery will help but with those percentages....geez...I better give myself some odds, huh?

It's weird but I'm not excited about any of this. My cycle will start soon so I actually don't feel that well. Maybe I'll feel better when CD1 comes. I just have to keep praying! Sorry if this post is all over the place. I've just had a lot of thoughts today.
Oh....Bubby is fine. Praise God.

  1. OH MY GOSH! I wonder why we never talked about you having endo. Aleve was my drug of choice dealing with my endo.

Ugg!!! Endo gave me "normal" cycles, removed the endo and I am a mess!!!

Do you have tail end brown bleeding? It's funny because in the Creighton book it says that infertile couples 70% of them with DH that have normal sperm have endo.

Actually more people have endo then they do have aids!

Ugg! I am excited for your surgery! Its the best thing that has ever happened to me!

I bet your chance of conceiving is like 1-3% that is what my Dr. said when I had the endo!!!

Don't worry about the percentages! God is bigger than a number! :) You still have good years left in you, I don't care what they say! ;)

  2. Sew, you and I have talked about me having endo...the napro dr doesn't do procedures to check for that....he sends everyone to Hilgers...which we couldn't afford. The practitioner had a suspicion that I may have it. The dr told me that if he finds it, he will take it out...and he look every where...by the bowel, appendix, etc. He claims that he does a very thorough job. He doesn't want it to return yet in some patients it does. I don't get that. I don't remember him using the word excising...I have the pamphlet he gave me...I'll check and I'll ask. Good question! And yes....I do believe God has the right number. Totally.

  3. It sounds like your doctor really listened to all of your concerns. I believe that you will be feeling better once you start seeing things start to take off. Praying for you and I believe that God is in control, not statistics!!! Keep up the faith! How did your DH respond to the treatment plan?

  4. Ugg! Forgive me! I feel like I talk to the wall about endo, so I can't keep up!

Good excising is the best way to rid endo! ;)

I am SUPER excited! How did your hubby like the new info?

Good for stickin to your guns!

  5. This sounds like a good plan & I hope you will be able to get moving on it soon. Lap/Hyst surgery has revealed a lot to me and my doc over the years. I've had it twice, and although we have no live baby yet it has helped clear up some problems.
Hoping for the best for you and your hubby!

  6. Thanks everybody! My dh took the news well. He wants me to get this done this summer so I won't lose work time however I'm taking two classes this summer and I really think the sooner the better. I'm tired of a week or more of cramps every month. So....I'm opting for ASAP. I hope it all goes well and I can be back to work within a few days. The dr said as long as I feel okay and do not have to lift children...I could do that but it all depends on how I heal and feel. Haa!!! My dh will take me to the surgery and will have to get a sub for his classroom. He was somewhat bothered by the fact that the other two dr's we saw didn't see endo as being an issue. He knows it's something medically that we have to do and our insurance covers it. Whew!
Oh....I forgot to mention that this dr wants me off of caffiene totally! No decaf, no nothing. ugh! Where do I begin? I love my morning cup of coffee. I'm going to cut down little by little. The dr mentioned getting some good prescription meds for the migraines. I go a day w/o caffiene and I get the worse headache. He stated that there is more research than not showing caffiene can cause early miscarriage and other fertility probs. So....I'll work on that and losing that 15% of my weight. Anything to help this along. Thank you for the prayers and words of encouragement!!!
