I will start this post with good news...My cholesteral went down...and the dr took me off of the medicine for three months...if it stays down...I won't need to take it. It went down quite a bit so I'm sure it's part meds and part me...I am exercising more...eating more veggies and watching fats. So, Lord willing...I can get better at what I am doing and keep those numbers down and keep that med off of my daily list of things to do. Amen?
I had a dr visit with my gp today who is Napro trained and I informed her of the situation with Dr. S. She told me something I did not know. Afterall of these years reading blogs...I had missed something. Apparently, Dr S starts out with a consult...then a investigative Lap (she's just taking a looksy to see what is going on) and then she will determine what kind of surgery is needed...if needed. I guess this is how Dr. Hilgers works too? So in actuality...I will have at least two appts with Dr. S...and maybe a third. I know I'll have the third (who are we kidding?)...I could tell Dr. S. lets go right to surgery...I can tell you what you'll find and we'll save us and me a lot of time (and money). I feel the other two steps are completely unnecessary and really? I'm sure the investigative lap means sedation? Am I wrong? Does this sound right or did I once again misunderstand my GP? I'm calling to see about cancellations...and if by God's Grace/Will I can get the consult and investigative lap done this summer...I'll be smiling. We'll just have to plan the other surgery when I get a work break.
See...in the non-Napro ways of doing things...my last lap included removing endo (not all obviously for the mold returned), cysts, septums and adhesions. I guess I just assumed in Napro it was done that way too.
We are still waiting to hear from Dr.S's billing to find out what my ins. will cover. That could truly open another can of worms. Thank God we are working! I guess I just have to find blessings in this situation...no matter how small.
Just a cute little happening to share...on the way to church last Sunday..I was stressing about my blood test results ( I had a liver number that was low...I guess high is bad...low is okay). As I was walking into church I passed a family with young children...before I walked in the door..one of the little girls ran up to me and handed me a dandelion (kids really do think these are flowers). I did not know this little girl...and don't remember seeing her before either..she was about three or four. I smiled at her and said "Thank you! You are so sweet!" and she smiled and walked away. I felt like God was telling me that all will be okay. He does speak to me through young children..hence maybe that is why I'm a teacher of young children. I get it...I really do.
St. Anne...pray for us!
I asked Dr. H's nurse if I could get my lap converted to a laparotomy since I was coming from such a long way. Dr. H doesn't like doing that, but he gave in since we were coming from Canada. There would've been no way to afford doing two separate trips to Omaha!
ReplyDeletePerhaps you can plead your case and Dr. S will make an exception for you.
Continued prayers for you!!!!
Who is this Dr. S??? Is it Dr. Sti.gen? I only ask since she was my lap surgeon and maybe I'm archaic here, how many female NaPro surgeons are there with a last name starting with 'S?' Just curious.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your cholesterol level decreasing!!! Good for you that you're using diet and exercise to control it!
Sweet girl!
ReplyDeleteJust reading these comments, and if it is Dr. Stigen, we adored her! She was professional, caring, and very capable. She assisted Dr. H with my Lap and did my f/u hospital visits.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can keep finding ways to work all of this out in your favor, you deserve to feel better!
Nope...Dr. Stal.ling is the dr/surgeon closest to me. I've heard she is good too. This surgeon is new (I believe).
ReplyDeleteHi. I met Dr. Stalling for the first time for a consult at the end of May. She spent a long time with me. She listened well and asked questions. That kind of consult was a first for me. I have read your most recent posts so I know time is a factor for you due to your job, so I thought I'd share my timeline with you. I met her for my consult on May 25th. After learning my insurance covered her recommendations on June 4th my surgery was scheduled for July 23rd. So far I have had a good experience with her and her nurse, Jenny. I hope all goes well for you.
ReplyDeleteFrom Pam and John: Thanks for your recent comments...when you say that you are having surgery on July 23rd (hope it goes well for you)...are you referring to the diagnostic lap? Is she going in to see what is going on? That is what my gp told me to expect..one simple lap procedure and maybe one surgery to remove endo, cysts, etc. Thanks for that time table. It truly freaks me out that I am going to have to try to fit this all in and work full time with pre k children. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I decided to check back before I head off to bed! My surgery is 3 different things. 1st it is a lap to see if I have endometriosis as she suspects I do. She said that her standard procedure is to check if there is anything there and if she can get to it with a laser then she will remove it. If it is more extensive or unreachable then I will have to have another surgery. The second part is an ovarian wedge resection due to pcos and the third part is a selective hsg to see if I have blocked tubes. Kind of a lot in one day but I am happy to have found a dr that actually has a solid plan of care for me. I hope this information helps. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. I will be updating my blog as well about my experience with Dr. Stalling and the surgery once it happens.

ReplyDeleteFrom Pam and John: It does sound overwhelming but it's better to have it done right than go through this procedure again....like I am currently doing. I just had a lap surgery three years ago. I thought it would be five or more years before facing this situation again. I'd like to check out your blog but do I need an invite? I can't seem to get to your posts.
ReplyDeleteI don't know that much about blogger, I am new here but I don't believe you need an invite. Try going to: www.frompamandjohntomomanddad.blogspot.com Let me know if that works.
ReplyDeleteI figured out that is was because I was using a google+ profile not a blogger profile. Anyhow, I changed it so I believe you should be able to click on my name and it will take you to my profile where you can then get to my posts.
DeleteFrom Pam and John: I found your blog...and it sounds like you and I will be going through the same kind of surgery with the same doctor and we both will have to travel 3 hours! I don't know if I need an ovarian wedge resection...I guess we'll have to wait and see on that.
