OMG! This has been a few stressful days. On Tuesday, I took our kitties to the vet for routine check up and shots. Everyone looked good, they got their shots (JoJo screamed) and we went home to continue our day. They both slept..as we were told they would do by the vet. Well...later that evening...JoJo threw up his food. Then he went into another room and began to continue to throw up bile and he was shaking. I could tell he was not well. So, since it was too late to take him to any vet (it was about 10:00pm...go figure)...we called the emerg.ancy anima.l hsp and they told us to bring him in. Thank God, our other cat seemed to be okay. So, my dh brought him in and they ended up keeping him for night observations and they gave him IV. fluids...sometimes all.ergic reactions can manifest themselves quickly in cats so if he started to have breathing problems...they would be there to monitor him. I was praying..he'd be okay.
The next morning...my dh got him from the hsp and took him to our vet to be checked out. The ve.t wrapped his paw since there was an IV from last night. The cat was not the same...stayed on his pillow...quietly. He wanted nothing to do with the other cat or us. The only good thing was that he was eating. Well...later that day...I noticed that he wasn't breathing right and his bandaged paw was getting huge. I watched him as he tried to get comfortable and every few steps he would lay down. I didn't like this behavior...so I called my vet and I had to bring him back in. They took the bandage off..because that could have been distressing him and they checked him out..his BPM's were elevated. We had chest x-rays done, etc and all checked out okay. She sent him home and told me to keep a close eye on him. He was still very crabby and still wanted nothing to do with us or the other cat (and they are good friends).
It was a long evening but he did eventually fall asleep and his breathing regulated so I felt better. He ate and used the box (it's important to notice that). We went to bed when we felt he was okay. This morning, he ate and is now a little more sociable. He evened rubbed up against me and wanted me to pet him! It was very scary and the vet recommends that we don't vaccinat.e him anymore. Next time could be worse. Wow! I guess they could do smaller doses etc but the vet is not sure that would be good. JoJo is an indoor cat. We'll just have to make sure he NEVER gets out. So, I said lots of prayers to St. Francis of Assisi and kept positive thoughts. I was somewhat afraid we might lose our boy. If your an animal lover...you know how scary this was. So...I think we learned a hard lesson. We are thankful he's on the mend.
Besides that, I had to call Dr. S's office for info on my ins. Still no answer. My dh is frustrated with that. Hopefully soon. We are enjoying the summer. We have been busy. I've been getting all of my books and teacher materials organized...and have thrown out lots of old papers. There's so much more to do. Ugh! Thank God for summers to do this.
I resorted to taking the Dr. H recommened pain pills this cycle...which were okay. I still felt pain but not as bad. I just hope and pray I can do this surgery soon so I can live somewhat pain free and be the teacher He has led me to be. Goodness...am I asking for much? God bless you all.
How scary!!! I'm so glad it turned out okay.
