Yesterday I subbed for a teacher friend of mine (I used to be her classroom aide a few years ago. This woman totally encouraged me to become a teacher myself and is so inspiring!). So, anyway...one little boy comes over and hands me a gift! He said "This is for you Mrs. "S"." I questioned..."Are you sure? It's not for your teacher?" He answered "No, it's for you." I then asked "Well, how did you know I was going to be here?" He answered "The teacher told us." I had subbed in this room a few weeks ago so they all knew me. I asked him a few more times and he just laughed and kept telling me that it was for me (he told the other children that he had gotten me a gift too). So, after their morning messages and calendar routines, I opened my gift (this is a first. I don't get gifts as a sub nor do I expect them). In the bag was a little ornament that said "#1 Teacher" on it." I could have cried but of course just pretended with the children and made them laugh. I was completely touched by the thoughtfulness. Later in the day it dawned on me...this child had an older sister who was in the class when I was an aide. Hmmmm....also...I've been praying continually for the Lord to help me feel confident on my journey of becoming a teacher....It occurred me to me this morning that the ornament was a pretty good sign...from God? Definitely. I did let the teacher know about the gift and how I questioned the child. I also had to ask another teacher for a thank you note(why would I need these?). I was able to get one. During this time of Advent and preparing for Christmas...sometimes it's those little and totally sweet things that others do that can make one's day.
I also got my H1.N1 shot this morning. I seemed to have gotten through the first round (I've been exposed to this many times this fall with being a sub) but since I've been hearing it may come back...I got the shot. I don't understand why teachers or subs were not in the high priority group?
Now to get the Christmas cards done...oh yeah...totally procrastinating on that one!
Blessings!!!!
That's so sweet. I'm glad that you got a sign to encourage you to be confident in pursuing teaching.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet gift! I just love getting signs like this from God. I hope that it encourages you on your journey.

How cute!!! You totally deserve it, I bet all the kids LOVE when you are there :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you're already an excellent teacher. Now it's about high-time you get paid as such (ha! she says as if lead teachers really get paid what they deserve)- so go get that certificate, missy!
