Do you do this?

How many of you out there call yourselves "Mommy" to your furry friends?  It doesn't matter whether you have children or not.  I was thinking about our first cat.  My dh  and I talked about getting a pet for a long time and for my 36th birthday, my dh gave me a gift card to Pet.smart to get the things we would need for a cat.  I was thrilled.  My dh did make it clear under no circumstance did he want to be called "daddy" to this cat.  Well, one week later, I brought home our first cat/pet home.  As soon as the little kitty walked out of his carrier and looked into my dh's eyes...my dh says "Come to daddy!".

Our first cat is no longer with us (we had to give him back to Jesus due to his illnesses) but now we have two very fun and loving cats.  We still call ourselves "mommy and daddy" to our furry roommates.  We call them our "children" and spoil them immensely.  Really.  Every time (literally) I make tea...the cats get a treat.  They will meow and look at me with begging eyes...it wins me over.  IF I don't give them a treat, oh the disappointed look I get.  What else do have to look forward too?  Open windows? Naps?  Oh well.

Someday, we hope they will be a big "brother and sister" to our future forever baby (Lord Willing).  My dh recently commented,"Well, if we don't adopt, why don't we make them "parents" and bring home another kitten."  I think he's joking.

  1. That's a cute story about your DH welcoming your cat and referring to himself as daddy. We have a cat, but my husband is the cat person in our home.

  2. We don't have any pets yet, but I can see us calling ourselves mom and dad to our pets, maybe. :)

  3. IF DH had his way, we'd have about 19 cats, I'm pretty sure. Probably a couple more dogs, too.
